Emanuel Nieves

Director of Research and Innovation

Informed by his upbringing in a working-class Puerto Rican household in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Emanuel has spent his career advancing progressive economic policies and helping policymakers understand and address barriers to economic prosperity facing families of color.

Prior to starting Liberation in a Generation, Emanuel spent eight years at Prosperity Now, most recently as an Associate Director of Policy, where he worked to inform and mobilize advocates across the country to push for policy change at the federal level that expanded economic opportunity. In this capacity, he led Prosperity Now’s work on understanding and addressing the racial wealth divide and predatory lending. Before joining Prosperity Now, Emanuel spent three years at the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, where he coordinated LISC’s local office advocacy efforts in Washington, DC, and provided support on an array of housing and community development federal issues. He holds a B.A. in political science from Stockton University in Pomona, New Jersey, and a Master in Public Policy from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs.
