Emanuel Nieves

Policy Director

Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey and raised in a working-class Puerto Rican household throughout the city, Emanuel’s parents and community instilled in him values of humility, hard work, serving others in your community, and perseverance in the face of hardship that have guided him throughout his life. Over the past ten years, these values have focused his career towards advancing progressive economic policies and helping policymakers understand and address the myriad of systematic barriers to economic mobility and prosperity facing families of color.

Prior to starting Liberation in a Generation, Emanuel was an Associate Director of Policy at Prosperity Now, where he worked to inform and mobilize advocates across the country to push for policy change at the federal level that expanded economic opportunity. In this capacity, he led Prosperity Now’s work on understanding and addressing the racial wealth divide and predatory lending. Before joining Prosperity Now, Emanuel worked at the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, where he coordinated LISC’s local office advocacy efforts in Washington, DC, and provided support on an array of housing and community development federal issues. He holds a B.A. in political science from Stockton University in Pomona, New Jersey.
